OC belonging to gaia's iLemuffin.

Request via Elsiane.

I can understand why people paint stylised characters now! It's a funny thing about realism. Even if someone has no interest in art whatsoever, they're allowed to tell you exactly how you should change your piece, because they've seen real people just like you, and if what you've painted is different from what they've seen, the rules about making personal comments about other people are suspended so they can tell you. (sometimes, in great detail.)

Well, I certainly don't deserve better than that, but it does make me wish I could just not care about improving.

Painted in MyPaint and GIMP, kubuntu 9.10 with fluxbox.

Hi, i was talking about brushes because i am the maker of "ramon" set. and i am interested in feedback about my brushes.Or at least to know what is useful and what not.

Long time ago i had the same feeling. Dont worry about art. Because all that you paint is "yours" and entirely "unique" it doesnīt matter if it is wrong for people, Nobody can do the same painting never. if you understand this and meditate about it , you will be relaxed, encouraged, and full of mental peace.even, the better painter on the world canīt replace what you paint. have anice day

The jitter/splats brushes (eg "splats offset") could be good for quickly inventing a mountain line, dress edge, lace, bush etc, etc, at least a draft to build on. I didn't think of that before, but I definitely will now :)

thanks so much for your encouragement :)

hmm, I think I'm quite a minimalistic user of the brushes! Let me check.
I like your "knife" blur brush a lot - gives a nice crisp painterly effect, and it's one of my 6 main brushes. I also really like the wet paint/blur brushes (soft, round, solid, etc). They look and feel like the blurring version of my main brush (s006), so I should probably use them more!

I think your splats/jitter brushes are awesome for generating texture but I haven't had a chance to use them yet. Here I actually used the tree brush, but it wasn't as "tree like" as I'd hoped - maybe using it wrong though.

For grass, I tend to texture grass all going in one direction rather than realistically multi-directional. Usually that's because my grass is not the focus so I don't want to draw too much attention. I used a tanda brush for that here. However, I like the "length" of your "grass" brushes better (such as your "hair" brush). the tanda brush was quite round - fine for faraway grass, but didn't work so well up close.

You are welcome,
The Wet brushes are specially good for blending colors and painting at the same time.We can easily controll when we mix the color ,with how much pressure, how much spread...lot of things, i love this amazing brush engine.

Leafs, grass, trees, they are complex to paint directly without lot of work. so any help is welcome. ;) .i hope to have time to paint more demostations about trees, for now i only have this example. but man is very very easy to make trees ,you will see it.

hmm maybe you have a limited vission about art, i think we dont have to worry about realism, abstract, stilish styles. we are talking about expression and pleassure of paint. why you couldnīt paint in all styles? no problem with that. It is all about you ,and how you feel things arround you.

Bythe way good technique and subject.Lighting on the face is well done and the flower on hat is cool.
maybe eye is a bit weird for me , but is ok on position. and the back is too empty ,no shading at all. overall good work on mypaint.i would like to know what brushes you are using
